My name is Auke Russchen, and I am truly grateful to be part of this project.

For fifteen years, I worked in various commercial roles within technology companies, primarily focused on material growth and professional advancement. Over time, however, I began to feel that something was missing. I lacked the motivation to continue along that path and started searching for what would genuinely bring me joy and a sense of meaningful impact. That search led me to make a significant career change. Four years ago, I began my studies to become a teacher of social studies, guiding students in understanding how our society functions, how politics works, and how they can find their own voice, form independent opinions, and choose how they want to contribute to society.

During this personal journey, I became increasingly aware of the privilege I have. I am fortunate to have a strong network of family and friends who support me, giving me the space and security to reflect on my direction in life. I have even been able to step back from work to focus fully on my studies, supported by my partner. I realize that many people do not have that same safety net.

Finding your purpose, reshaping your path, or even pausing to reflect requires time, space, and often guidance. Without access to support — whether from a personal network or a professional who can ask the right questions — it is easy to feel stuck. For those who lack the financial means or simply do not know where to seek help, this journey can feel out of reach.

This is precisely why I believe in the importance of Stichting Treehouse Coaching. We live in a society where opportunities often expand for those who already have access, while others struggle to find stable footing. Belgian psychiatrist Dirk De Wachter offers a powerful analogy: he compares our society to a speedboat. At the front, those who are thriving urge the captain to go faster. At the back, those who struggle stand without guardrails, trying to keep their balance. Mental health professionals circle around the boat in rescue crafts, picking up those who fall overboard — only to return them to the same unstable conditions.

Perhaps the coaching offered by Stichting Treehouse Coaching can serve as that guardrail — helping people find stability, direction, and confidence as the boat moves forward.

I sincerely hope we can contribute to making that difference.
